It also has a fixed effect on bacterial toxins and can stop diarrhea quickly. Therefore, its preparation is widely used in clinic. Montmorillonite API is not only used in preparations, but also used in drug synthesis and sustained-release preparations as excipients.
Montmorillonite is purified from bentonite. Bentonite, is a clay mine with montmorillonite as the main mineral component. Its montmorillonite content is 40% – 90%, and also contains a small amount of kaolinite, boehmite, chlorite, opal, mica and other minerals. The performance of bentonite is related to the content of montmorillonite. The more montmorillonite, the better its performance. The United States Pharmacopoeia, British Pharmacopoeia and European Pharmacopoeia contain porphyry. Montmorillonite has been used as pharmaceutical raw material and excipient in the pharmaceutical industry for many years. Its medicinal montmorillonite is odorless, with slight soil smell, near white or yellowish, with wax luster and no irritation. The effect of Bentonite on nervous system was measured by mouse autonomous activity instrument, the respiratory depth and frequency of rats were measured by two channel physiological instrument, the blood pressure of rats was measured by rat tail method, and the ECG of rats was measured by ELG-8511 electrocardiograph. Results: the maximum tolerance of bentonite was 8g, which was 2666 times of human dosage, and the toxicity was very small.
The statistical results show that bentonite has no effect on nervous, respiratory and cardiovascular systems. The pharmacological study of montmorillonite shows that it has good adsorption on Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter jejuni, Staphylococcus aureus, rotavirus and bile salt; It can fix bacterial toxin; Montmorillonite only adsorbs and fixes pathogenic charged pathogens with particle coding protein (cs31 a) on the surface, and has no fixed scavenging effect on normal flora without cs31 a on the surface. Therefore, montmorillonite is widely used in medicine.
