Montmorillonite powder was first used clinically to treat diarrhea and peptic ulcer. It was developed by French yipusheng company and imported into China. The trade name is Smecta. Pharmacological studies on Smecta showed that it had good adsorption on Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter jejuni, Staphylococcus aureus, rotavirus and bile salt, and fixed bacterial toxins; The study also showed that montmorillonite only adsorbed pathogenic charged pathogens with particle coding protein (cs3la) on the fixed surface, and had no fixed scavenging effect on the normal flora without cs3la on the surface. When the concentration of montmorillonite in bacterial solution reaches 5%, the adsorption rate of montmorillonite to bacteria is almost 100% . Since then, the generic drugs of montmorillonite powder, such as Biqi and Kenting, have been listed in China. The new dosage form of montmorillonite dispersible tablets was approved to be listed by the State Food and Drug Administration (hereinafter referred to as SFDA) in 2005, and the trade name is sailimai. At present, SFDA has issued the national drug standards for montmorillonite and montmorillonite powder and the national new drug standards for montmorillonite dispersible tablets.
The raw material of montmorillonite comes from nature and has no pollution to the environment. It can eliminate the pathogenic bacteria in the digestive tract. It is a mucosal protective agent. Oral montmorillonite is not absorbed by the human body, does not enter the blood circulation, does not affect the gastrointestinal peristalsis, does not affect the digestion and absorption of food, and has no contraindications. It is suitable for all kinds of people, especially children. Many years of clinical trials have proved that montmorillonite powder has a high total effective rate in the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea caused by various reasons, stops diarrhea quickly, and can minimize the damage of diarrhea to patients’ gastrointestinal tract.
In addition to treating diarrhea, montmorillonite powder is also used for neonatal secondary gastrointestinal bleeding, antagonizing erythromycin gastrointestinal reaction, treating oral ulcer and pediatric stomatitis, treating pediatric mycotic enteritis, treating neonatal maternal and infant jaundice, treating hypopharyngeal syndrome, etc.
