Ergothioneine

Ergothionein is a naturally occurring sulfur-containing amino acid derivative, first discovered in 1909 from ergot fungi. The human body is unable to synthesize ergothionein on its own and requires dietary intake. There is a specialized transporter protein (OCTN1) in the body that absorbs and distributes it to high metabolic active organs such as the liver, kidneys, and brain, indicating its significant importance to the human body.
The chemical structure of ergothionein is very stable, and it is not easily spontaneously oxidized at physiological pH values. Even after heating, it is not easily decomposed and can be retained in the human body for a long time. Therefore, it is also known as the "longevity vitamin".
Scientific tip: The effect needs to be continuously supplemented for 2-4 weeks to become apparent, and it is not a quick acting ingredient.
